What Is NAS?

NAS is an acronym for Network Attached Storage. NAS solutions are specialized file-serving devices that support heterogeneous files in a high capacity storage solution on Ethernet based networks. NAS solutions also provide specific features to simplify the tasks and reduce the resources associated with data storage and management. The objective of NAS technology is to simplify manageability and improve data access to clients and applications. A NAS solution will generally provide network accessible storage to a mix of clients and servers running different operating systems.

Microsoft® Windows® Integration

Powered by Windows® Storage Server™ 2003 R2 operating system and optimized for storage-specific management and applications, the Tandberg Viking FS-420U ensures ease of deployment, flexibility and seamless integration to customers' network environments. The hardware is also preconfigured and optimized to allow the Viking FS-420U NAS to be up and running in minutes.

Heterogeneous OS Support

In a typical workgroup environment, the Tandberg Viking FS-420U NAS serves as the file storage device hosting local user files for sharing and exchanging between Windows, Mac and UNIX/Linux clients.

Small Foot-Print

The Viking FS-420U NAS comes in a 1U form factor which provides a great solution that minimizes space requirements. This also means that more Viking FS-420U NAS units can be consolidated in a single rack system and thus providing customers with cost saving in a denser datacenter environment.
