Tandberg Data Adds More Products to
Family of Data Protection Solutions for Mac OS X

LTO Fibre Channel and VXA Tape Libraries are ideally suited for busy SMBs and departmental organizations seeking robust, reliable, and easy-to-use data protection products

Tandberg Data (OSE: TAD), a leading global supplier of backup and archiving technologies, today announced the addition of four new products for Mac OS X. The Magnum 224 LTO-4 Fibre Channel Tape Library, The Magnum 448 LTO-4 Fibre Channel Tape Library, the VXA-320 Firewire Tape Drive, and the VXA-320 Firewire 1U Tape Autoloader are designed to work seamlessly on the Mac OS X platform. The new products will be available this summer and will include backup and recovery software, providing Apple customers a variety of feature-rich data protection solutions at industry-leading prices.

The Tandberg Data family of data protection products for Mac OS X is designed and tested for compatibility with Mac Xserve and Xserve RAID to ensure reliable data protection. The new products complement the recently announced StorageLoader with LTO-3 half-height drive, the industry's first 1U, LTO-3 tape autoloader also Apple-certified for the Mac OS X.

About the LTO-4 Fibre Channel Magnum 224 and Magnum 448

Developed specifically for data-intense SMBs, departmental organizations, and mid-range enterprises, the Magnum 224 Tape Library with a single native Fibre Channel (FC) LTO-4 drive and 24-cartridge magazine delivers speeds of 120 MB/s or 432 GB/hr (native) and total capacity of up to 19.2 TB native in a compact, 2U rackmount enclosure. The Magnum 224 eliminates the need for and associated costs of a Fibre Channel interface to the automation controller by using a feature built into the LTO tape drives called Automation/Drive Interface (ADI). The new LTO-4 drive also offers a myriad of features to improve performance, reliability and manageability. With its new hardware-based encryption, the LTO-4 drive can write encrypted data directly to the LTO Ultrium tape cartridge, adding another level of security to the storage and transport of sensitive information. Digital Speed Matching, a 256 MB buffer and Dynamic Compression all improve drive performance. Diagnostic routines, such as the Statistical Analysis and Reporting System, assist in isolating failures between media and hardware, and Adaptive Tape Threading protects against failures during cartridge loads by verifying tape speed, the tape spinning wheel, and modulating the tape thread by providing tension control. Independent tape loader and threader motors and positive pin retention ensure that the pin will be retained during a miss-pick. Graceful Dynamic Braking allows the reel motors to gradually decelerate, instead of stopping abruptly during an unexpected power down.

The Apple-configured Magnum 224 delivers full-featured capabilities as well as user-friendly installation and configuration. The library ships standard with a barcode scanner, Ethernet-based remote management, a single import/export media drawer, a rack mount kit, a 24-cartridge magazine, and TOLIS backup software. Other library vendors may charge hundreds or even thousands of dollars extra for these key library features.

The Magnum 448 Tape Library is a scalable, affordable, and user-friendly tape library. It easily scales "on demand" from a 1x48 to a 2x48 tape library with up to two full-height LTO-4 drives. With two LTO-4 drives, the library offers up to 76.8 TB of compressed data storage - all in a space-saving 4U form factor. The Magnum 448 offers pay-as-you-go scalability - capacity on demand by offering an easy upgrade path from previous LTO-3 FC libraries to LTO-4, providing SMBs, departmental users, and mid-range enterprises the flexibility to easily adjust storage capacity based on budget and data requirements. The Magnum 448 also includes TOLIS backup software, a barcode scanner, Ethernet-based remote management, and rackmouont kit.

The Magnum 224 LTO-4 Fibre Channel Tape Library and the Magnum 448 LTO-4 Fibre Channel Tape Library ship will be available in July 2007. Both are protected by a standard one-year warranty that includes 5x9 next business day on site service (OSS). Estimated price for the Magnum 224 with one full-height LTO-4 drive with native Fibre Channel is $8,500. The Magnum 448 with one full-height LTO-4 with native Fibre Channel drive has an estimated price of $12,500.

About the VXA-320 Firewire Tape Drive and VXA-320 1U PacketLoader with Firewire

VXA's third generation products include the VXA-320 Packet Drive, which records up to 320 GB compressed to a single cartridge at a data transfer rate of up to 24 MB/sec. compressed, and the VXA-320 PacketLoader 1x10, a full-featured, sleek 1u autoloader with 10 cartridge slots offering up to 3.2 TB of capacity, plus a bar code reader and Ethernet port for remote management - both standard. Both the VXA-320 drive and autoloader will offer the flexibility and convenience of hot-swappable Firewire 800 or 400 connectivity - ideal for the Apple user.
