Tandberg Data enhances Half-Height LTO-drive offering

1U rackmount enclosure and External SAS drive provide flexibility and choice

Oslo Norway, (23 February, 2009): Tandberg Data, the global supplier of data protection solutions, today announced the availability of a 1U rackmount for LTO Half Height drives, enabling users to add up to 2 drives in a 1U rack enclosure. Tandberg Data also introduced the LTO-4 HH external SAS drive. Businesses that do not have a rackmount server and who are looking for an external tape drive solution, can opt for the new LTO-HH SAS drive, and benefit from increased speed, reliability, and low power consumption.

LTO is the technology of choice for both SMB users, with more than 95% market share in the midrange tape segment. LTO tape technology offers customers great value, exceptional performance and reliability, with the lowest storage costs for long term storage of data of any technology in the market. 1U Rackmount

The Tandberg Data 1U rackmount is the ideal solution for customers with limited rack space, the small footprint allows customers to consolidate external storage needs within a high-density form factor. The 1U rackmount also provides a simple and effective solution for attaching tape drives to a server.

The 1U rackmount is available with SCSI or SAS connectivity and will support up to 2 Half Height LTO tape drives, providing the flexibility to accommodate a variety of drive combinations, for example: two LTO-4 HH drives will provide a compressed storage capacity of 3.2TB and a maximum compressed throughput of 1.15TB/hr.

LTO-4 HH SAS External Tape Drive

Tandberg Data LTO Half Height tape drive family offers customers industry leading performance and reliability, combined with excellent service and support, providing customers the best value and piece of mind. Tandberg Data LTO Half Height drives are available with SCSI or SAS connectivity in server-installable internal, convenient tabletop or space-efficient rackmount configurations. The advance air-cooling design combined with low power consumption will help reduce running costs.

The New Tandberg Data LTO-4 HH SAS tabletop tape drive is an ideal solution for customers that do not have a rackmount server or customers looking for external tape drive solution. The LTO-4 Half Height tape drive can store up to 1.6TB of data on a single cartridge with transfer rates up to 564GB/hr*. The low cost of LTO media, offers customers the lowest storage cost (less than $0.10 per GB) for data that needs to be stored offsite or retained for long periods.

Pricing and Availability

All Tandberg Data solutions are available through its established channel of distribution and reseller partners. The manufacturer suggested retail prices (MSRP) of the 1U rackmount, including power cable, 3 years warranty and 1 year Advanced Replacement Service start at $555/356 Euros. The MSRP of the External LTO-4 HH SAS drive kit with Symantec Backup Exec QS, a cartridge and cabling is $2,925/2267 Euros, including 3 years warranty and Advanced Replacement Service.
