Tandberg Data offers a wide selection of secondary storage solutions, ranging from disk-based appliances, such as the RDX® QuikStor™ and the Tandberg DPS1000 Series™ VTL, to automated tape solutions like the Tandberg StorageLoader™ and StorageLibrary™ Series. Tandberg Data also offers tape drives, based on the LTO™, SLR™, and VXA® tape technology platforms, and media. Tandberg Data solutions are supported by robust, easy to use software, such as the RDX® FileKeeper™, the continuous data protection solution for the RDX QuikStor.

All solutions are supported through a worldwide service and support network, recognised globally for its outstanding levels of service. In addition to the standard warranty and support offerings, on-site service upgrades provide Tandberg Data customers with further peace of mind.

Tandberg Data products are supported by all major operating systems and software applications to successfully integrate and operate in heterogeneous storage environments. All solutions are designed to meet the growing storage requirements of small and medium sized organizations with scalability, reliability, and backward compatibility features that ensure cost effective operation and long-term investment protection.

From entry level to SME
Rapidly growing capacity requirements and the increasing importance of electronic information have led the world-wide enterprise, Tandberg Data, from a tape-oriented focus to a data protection focus.

Storage solutions coming from Tandberg Data are tailored to different needs. SLR systems assume data protection solutions in the entry level range. Scalable automation products and drives on LTO and VXA platforms have been developed for midrange and high-end environments.

Tandberg Data's removable disk storage, RDX QuikStor, warrants the highest level of data availability and reliability. The recently introduced DPS1000 Series VTL is the next generation of virtual tape in a simple, cost-effective data protection solution for the SME.

Tandberg Data branded media complete the product range.

Tandberg Data History
Tandberg Data has a legacy of manufacturing excellence and innovation dating back to the Tandberg Radio Factory founded in 1933. This legacy has fostered a culture of engineering innovation leading to Tandberg Data's breakthrough in magnetic recording technology and in particular the development of the Tandberg SLR - Scalable Linear Recording - tape storage product platform.

Tandberg Data was established in 1979 as a separate data division when the Tandberg Radio Factory was dissolved into separate entities. At this same time, several other organizations carrying the Tandberg name were established, each pursuing different business opportunities.

Throughout the 1980's Tandberg Data introduced several information storage products based on the QIC (Quarter Inch Cartridge) standard, these included products ranging from 20MB in 1980 to 1GB in 1989. During this same period the organization also developed a significant business in the area of data terminals. However, tape information storage products contributed the greatest portion of earnings by 1987. Tandberg Data also established subsidiary locations in Germany, France and USA during the 1980's.

In the 1990's the company expanded its worldwide presence by establishing subsidiary locations in Japan, Singapore and the UK. Also during this time, the company incorporated LCD video projectors into their product portfolio. This diversification ended in 1996 when Tandberg Data shifted to 100% focus on information storage products, focusing heavily on tape.

In October 2003 Tandberg Data demerged, splitting out its core tape development group into a seperate public listed company; Tandberg Storage ASA (ticker= TST). In 2006, Tandberg Data acquired Exabyte Corporation, further enhancing Tandberg Data’s product portfolio and coverage in the US market.

In the subsequent years, the company introduced various tape solutions, with tape libraries scaling up to 182TB. The focus of the company broadened to a wider set of data protection solutions as it introduced various disk based products, including its removable disk solution, the RDX QuikStor, in 2007, and the DPS1000 Series Virtual Tape Libraries in 2009.

In November 2008, Tandberg Data integrated the tape development group back into the company by acquiring Tandberg Storage. This was followed by a financial and business restructuring in April 2009. TAD Holdings AS became the new, privately owned holding company and the Tandberg Data subsidiaries continued their operations across EMEA, the Americas, APAC and Japan. Tandberg Data GmbH in Germany is the new operational headquarters for the company.

The Future
Tandberg Data has over the years evolved its strategy from being a tape vendor to becoming a company that provides broader data protection solutions. It now includes disk based solutions and software solutions in its portfolio. The company continues to focus on the execution of its strategic vision of providing data protection solutions, including disk, tape drives and automation, software and services, to the SMB market.
