Tandberg Data Announces Green Initiative with Rebates for Recycling

BOULDER, COLO. - April 15, 2008-Tandberg Data (OSE: TAD), a global supplier of backup and archiving solutions, today announced a new program called Rebates for Recycling, a "green" initiative that helps IT managers save money as they help save the planet by reducing energy consumption. Tandberg Data's Rebates for Recycling provides significant incentives - from $50 to $600 - for those who sign up to recycle old, inefficient tape storage devices and replace them with new, high-efficiency tape storage products.

The new Rebate for Recycling program from Tandberg Data responds to an EPA report indicating that 90% of U.S. data centers will experience power failures and brownouts in 2008 and that 50% of large data centers will fall short of the needed power and cooling capacity to operate their high-density storage equipment by the end of this year, thus making energy consumption a critical concern for data center managers.

"As IT and storage administrators upgrade their data protection solutions, we want to give them a green incentive to recycle their old storage device in favor of a new one with a smaller footprint, higher capacity, and greater energy efficiency," said Meghan Turner, Director of Marketing for the Americas, Tandberg Data.  "Disk and tape both have their place in the data center, but the fact remains that tape is the most energy efficient and most economical data archival solution."

Rebates for Recycling Program Details
When a customer agrees to recycle an old tape solution - any tape product whether it's from Tandberg Data or not - the company will give the customer a rebate toward the purchase of a new Tandberg Data tape device. Customers must submit the rebate request in advance online at www.tandbergdata.com/us/recycle. The offer is valid through June 30, 2008 and offers a variety of green discounts, starting with $150 toward the purchase of any Tandberg Data StorageLoader and $300 toward the purchase of any Tandberg Data tape library.

Double Incentives for Current Customers
Existing customers of select Tandberg Data or Exabyte legacy products will receive an even greater incentive to move up to a new, energy efficient device with DOUBLE the discount, saving up to $600 on any Tandberg Data tape library. Existing legacy customers can review full details and request rebates at www.tandbergdata.com/us/recyclelegacy.

All rebate requests must be submitted online. All rebate recipients will receive the discount upon purchase of a new product through the authorized reseller of their choice. Tandberg Data will respond to both the recipient and the reseller when the discount has been authorized.  Authorization will be given within 48 hours of submission. Authorization and purchase must be completed by June 30, 2008. Any purchase made prior to this authorization is not valid for the rebate. See full details online.

Online Solutions Forum
In addition to the Rebates for Recycling program, Tandberg Data also is encouraging a dialogue on this issue, including such topics as Power Consumption and Energy Use, Heat Removal and Management, and Data Center Infrastructure and Design in an online forum. As an incentive for participation in the discussion, the company will give away a Tandberg Data LTO-4 tape drive - the LTO drive with the lowest power consumption in the industry - 36% lower than Quantum and 40% lower than HP (LTO-4 External Tape Drives Energy Consumption: Tandberg Data - 18W; HP - 30W; Quantum - 28W).  To contribute to the online discussion and read details about the LTO-4 tape drive give-away, go to www.tandbergdata.com/us/greenideas.

"Saving a buck is always important," added Turner, "but we can't ignore the impacts of skyrocketing energy demand. There is no single solution to the challenge of growing energy requirements and the increasing need for greater storage capacity, but every step in the right direction will help.  That's why we want to do our part by helping to facilitate a discussion about real world solutions and by continuing to produce the most energy-efficient storage products as possible."
