Veeam Backup & Replication and RDX® QuikStor™

Small and medium businesses are utilising virtualisation software to reduce costs and improve the performance and efficiency of IT systems. Unfortunately, within a virtualised environment the risk of data loss is increased, due to increased utilisation of storage devices. In addition, many businesses simply perform disk-to-disk backups and have no off-site data protection, leaving the business vulnerable to data loss from fire, flood, virus attack or data theft. It this therefore imperative that businesses install robust data protection solutions to fully protect virtualised environments.

RDX® QuikStor™

Overland-Tandberg RDX QuikStor removable disk storage system allows virtualised environments to be easily backed up and data transported off-site for complete data protection. RDX endorsed by all major OEM‘s (HPE, IBM, Dell, Fujitsu, NEC etc.) and designed for use in SMB environments. When combined with Veeam Backup and Replication software, businesses can easily manage backup and restore tasks, whilst minimising the risk of data loss and downtime.

RDX media combines the portability and reliability of tape with the speed and simplicity of a hard disk drive. RDX provides high performance up to 540GB/hr and storage capacities up to 5TB per cartridge. RDX drives and media are rugged and tough, and designed to last more than 10 years and meet business compliance requirements for Backup and Archive.

QuikStor integration in Veeam Backup & Replication

RDX QuikStor systems (USB3.0 and SATA III) and media are fully compatible with Veeam Backup and Replication software. During the initial setup the RDX QuikStor drive is detected by Veeam as a removable disk device, the user must select the retention policy for the RDX device, this will determine the number of restore points Veeam will retain on each RDX media that is inserted into the RDX drive.

Anytime a new RDX media is inserted into the RDX drive, Veeam will automatically perform a new full backup, thereafter Veeam will perform increment backups and update the backup files stored on the RDX media. We recommend customers use a minimum of 3 RDX media in a standard media rotation, where one media is in use, one media is retained on-site, one media is stored offsite. Customers can increase the level of data protection by increasing the number of media. Some media maybe retained off-site for long-term data protection and compliance purposes for several years.
